1.You will meet new people
Lots of people pass through during the call center job. This is due, inter alia, to the fact that in such companies there is quite a large turnover of employees. Also some projects require the employment of a large number of people. You can take this aspect as a very positive thing in your life, even if you are not very fond of people. Getting to know other people always gives a different point of view, develops a person and can result in a new, long-term friendship. You don’t even expect the incredibly interesting personas you will come across in a contact center. Yes, it may happen that your colleague sitting next to you has a rather disturbing habit of spreading peanut butter on his knees when no one is looking, or letting out quiet radioactive farts, and the colleague you always pass on the way to the toilet will have a mustache and she will look at you with Haniball Lecter’s eyes and lick her lips, but… statistics say that there will always be such individualities in a crowd. Who knows – maybe you will find your future business partner among such people? Or just a buddy with whom you can go for a beer and play pool?
2. It will be fun!
Yes, my friend, don’t forget that in addition to the dark moments forecasted by all former participants in a call center job, there are also some really funny ones and – take my word for it – there are quite a lot of them. These can be really absurd mistakes of customers who call you. I remember working in customer service of an online store with accessories for coffee machines and a lady called me with a question: “How much of this pill should I give my cat to eat”? She wanted to treat the cat with a cleaning tablet for the coffee machine! It’s not funny, but see – I saved an innocent creature! On the other hand, there are loads of funny conversations and jokes waiting for you that you can have with your colleagues. So let your imagination run wild and go into battle with a cheerful attitude!
3. You’ve got an advantage over the phone
Customer service is not the easiest task within the call center job. I would say that this is even one of the most difficult issues, in addition, a lot depends on it. But when you only talk to your client over the phone, you have a huge advantage. The client cannot see your face and is unable to see the nuances that may cause him or her unwanted reactions. I do not mean that during the conversation you ostentatiously put your legs on the desk, open incognito tabs with pornographic pages or slurp your tea every other word – all this will be heard and will rather result in a quick kick in your cheeky ass from the manager. My point is, you can use this advantage to work more comfortably, efficiently and better, which will always lead you to cool places. For more about the fact that everyone hears what you look like, read the “How to work in a call center without going crazy” ebook.
4. You’ll develop yourself
Yes, it is not often pleasant, but development is an integral part of everyone’s life. Of course, if we want to live and not just exist – which for me is basically synonymous with death. So do not be afraid of this new experience and remember that you can go a long way with small, persistent steps.
5. You will learn about the operation of a large company
“But I’m scared and I don’t want to get to know a new company! I don’t need this! ” It’s necessary, trust me. This knowledge will be useful at every stage of your life. Regardless of whether you want to work for someone or start your own business. You will be able to observe the dependencies and the way the company works, you will notice mistakes, maybe even come up with some improvement, thanks to which you will enter a higher level in the company or you will get an interesting proposal. Remember – it’s good to learn from other people’s mistakes, not your own!
And that was it. When it comes to fear – I recommend you an interesting book originally published in 1987 by Susan Jeffers.
